Everything you’d want to ask.
They hold your keys and your pet — you should have answers. If yours isn’t here, just call or text us.
Getting started
Before any care begins, we come to your home at no charge to meet you and your pet, learn the routine, see where everything lives, and exchange keys or access details. It lets your pet meet our face first and lets everyone make sure it’s a great fit. It usually takes 30–45 minutes.
Trust & access
Keys are coded — never labeled with your name or address — and kept in a locked safe between visits, or we use your lockbox or smart-lock code. Access is logged for every visit, and we can return keys any time you ask. We never share access outside your assigned sitter and our owner.
Yes. Sundog carries commercial pet-care liability insurance and every sitter is bonded against loss. Each sitter is also background-checked and certified in pet first aid and CPR before they hold a key. We’re a member of Pet Sitters International and follow professional care standards.
Pupdates
On walks, we track the route, distance, and pace live on a map. After every visit — walk, drop-in, sitting, or overnight — you get a "pupdate": a photo, the map (for walks), a quick checklist of feeding/water/potty/meds, and a short note in your pet’s voice. You always know your pet is happy and cared for.
Scheduling
Absolutely — it’s what we’re built for. Recurring weekly clients get a dedicated sitter their pet knows, priority scheduling, and up to 15% off versus pay-as-you-go. You can adjust or pause your schedule any time.
Yes, including overnights. Holiday weeks book up quickly because we cap how many pets we take, so reserve early. A modest holiday surcharge applies on major holidays (we’ll always show it up front). Holiday cancellations have a longer notice window — see below.
For routine visits, cancel by 9 PM the day before for a full credit. Same-day cancellations are charged 50%. For overnights and holiday bookings, we ask for 7 days’ notice. Recurring clients can skip occasional days at no charge with a heads-up.
Pet care
Yes. We routinely give oral meds, eye drops, insulin, and subcutaneous fluids, and we’re comfortable with senior pets, anxious pets, and special diets. We go over everything in detail at the meet & greet and keep written care notes for every sitter.
Yes. For an overnight, your sitter stays in your home for a 12-hour overnight — typically evening through morning — including an evening walk, dinner, bedtime, and a morning routine. Your pet keeps their own bed and their own home; they barely notice you’re gone.
Emergencies
At the meet & greet we collect your vet, a backup vet, the nearest 24-hour emergency clinic, and a signed authorization for care up to a limit you set. If something happens, we get your pet to care immediately and reach you at every number you give us. Every sitter is pet-first-aid and CPR certified.
Service area
We focus on the east side of Madison — Tenney-Lapham, Marquette, Atwood, Schenk-Atwood, Willy Street, Vilas, and nearby neighborhoods. Staying local is how we arrive on time and build relationships. Just outside the area? Reach out — we may still be able to help or refer a trusted colleague.
